Mini espresso machine for the small kitchen and on the go: 6 models compared.

Prices in euros from Amazon.de, as of 11 June 2026. Prices and availability may differ on Amazon.co.uk.

Real espresso needs neither a big machine nor a wide worktop. We compared six compact espresso machines along three very different routes: slim portafilter machines for real barista espresso from your own ground coffee (the De’Longhi Dedica is only 15 cm wide), compact capsule machines for espresso at the press of a button (the Nespresso Essenza Mini measures only 8.4 cm) and portable mini machines for camping, travel and the office, entirely without a socket or with a battery. Sorted by type, pump pressure, milk frothing system, power source and width. All listed on Amazon.de, from €75. The most important question first: do you want to grind and froth yourself, espresso at the press of a button, or brew on the go?

⌗ Detailed reviews

Every model in detail.

Which mini espresso machine suits you: portafilter, capsule or portable.

01 · Our pick
⌗ De’Longhi Dedica Arte EC885.M portafilter machine
Household appliances > Espresso machines

De’Longhi Dedica Arte EC885.M portafilter machine

Our pick and the reference among slim portafilter machines: only 15 cm wide (fits under wall cabinets), all-metal housing, 15 bar pump and MyLatteArt steam wand for self-frothed milk. Thermoblock heats up in about 35 s, 51 mm portafilter for ground coffee and ESE pods. Honestly: low clearance (tall cups do not fit), and milk frothing takes practice. Real barista espresso in minimal space.

02 · Barista entry
⌗ Sage The Bambino SES450 portafilter machine
Household appliances > Espresso machines

Sage The Bambino SES450 portafilter machine

The technically best: 54 mm brew group (closer to the professional standard), ThermoJet ready in only 3 seconds, automatic pre-infusion, auto milk frother + steam wand, programmable shots, largest tank (1.4 L), and still only 15.5 cm wide. Honestly: loud, jerky pump noise, no pressure gauge, limited steam output. For ambitious espresso in a small space.

04 · Budget portafilter pick
⌗ De’Longhi Stilosa EC260.BK portafilter machine
Household appliances > Espresso machines

De’Longhi Stilosa EC260.BK portafilter machine

The cheapest real portafilter: from around 100 euros, espresso from your own ground coffee, with 15 bar pump, 1 L tank, 51 mm portafilter (also ESE pods) and Pannarello frother for cappuccino. A tamper is included. Honestly: only pressurised baskets, no adjustment options, mostly plastic. The ideal, inexpensive entry into the portafilter world.

05 · On the go
⌗ Wacaco Nanopresso portable espresso machine
Household appliances > Espresso machines

Wacaco Nanopresso portable espresso machine

The portable one without a socket: fully hand-operated, up to 18 bar by hand pump, only 336 g light, for camping, travel and the office. Real espresso with crema, self-sufficient without power or battery. Honestly: you need a source of hot water (no heating element) and some practice. For espresso anywhere a machine cannot stand.

06 · Portable · Battery
⌗ Outin Nano portable battery espresso machine
Household appliances > Espresso machines

Outin Nano portable battery espresso machine

The portable one with a battery that heats itself: fill with cold water, the USB-C battery heats it, electric 20 bar pulls the espresso, no kettle needed. 2-in-1 for ground coffee and Nespresso capsules, chargeable in the car via 12/24 V. Honestly: self-heating really takes 5 to 8 min, about 5 cups per charge, and at 670 g and about €150 heavier and more expensive than the Nanopresso. The most convenient portable solution.

⌗ Buying advice

Which mini espresso machine suits you?

Portafilter, capsule or portable: which espresso type is right?

Portafilter machines (De’Longhi Dedica, Sage Bambino) deliver real espresso from your own ground coffee with milk foam: best quality, low cost per cup, but some practice needed. Capsule (Nespresso Essenza Mini) is simplest and slimmest, but with running costs. Portable (Wacaco, Outin) is for camping and travel. Quality → portafilter; convenience → capsule; on the go → portable.

Which is the slimmest espresso machine?

It depends on the type: among the capsule machines, the Nespresso Essenza Mini at only 8.4 cm is the slimmest mains-powered machine. Among the real portafilter machines, the De’Longhi Dedica at 15 cm is the reference. Only portable units such as the Wacaco Nanopresso (7 cm) are smaller still, but they offer no mains-powered brewing.

What does 15 bar of pump pressure mean for espresso?

The pressure forces hot water through the ground coffee and produces the typical crema. For real espresso, around 9 bar at the basket is ideal; the pump figures (15, 18, 19 bar) are maximum values that the machine regulates down internally. More important than the bar figure alone are even extraction and brewing temperature. All machines in the comparison offer enough pressure; the Sage Bambino regulates it most finely with its 54 mm group and pre-infusion.

Can I make cappuccino with a mini espresso machine?

Only the portafilter machines in the comparison have a milk frother: the De’Longhi Dedica (steam wand), the Stilosa (Pannarello) and the Sage Bambino (auto frother). Capsule and portable units make espresso only; for cappuccino you need a separate milk frother there. If you regularly drink milk drinks, you should choose a portafilter machine with a steam wand.

Is a portable espresso machine worth it?

If you do not want to go without espresso on the go: yes. The Wacaco Nanopresso is hand-operated and ultralight (336 g), but needs hot water. The Outin Nano heats itself by battery, is more convenient, but heavier and more expensive. At home they are no replacement for a portafilter or capsule machine, but as a travel companion for camping, hotel and office they are ideal.
