Dometic CFX3 35

The premium choice for van life and long-lasting setups. 36 L capacity, three voltages (12/24/230 V), cooling to −22 °C, app control via the Dometic CFX3 app. With a TFT colour display and very robust build quality. Higher price, but 2+5 years of warranty and excellent resale value.

⌗ Alpicool C40

Alpicool C40

The best value in the 40 L segment. Three voltages, cooling from −20 to +20 °C, USB port for charging small devices straight from the box. Volume 45 dB, quiet enough to stand next to the sleeping area.

Mobicool MCF40

From the former Waeco line: a solid brand, 38 L capacity, and at 11.5 kg much lighter than the Dometic or Alpicool. Cooling to −10 °C (no freezer range), but more than sufficient for 95% of camping uses. Energy efficiency class C, the most economical box in the comparison (0.28 kWh / day).

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a compressor and a thermoelectric cool box?

A compressor cool box cools down like a fridge regardless of the outside temperature (down to about −20 °C) and is economical. Thermoelectric boxes only cool a few degrees below ambient temperature and are unsuitable for hot days.

Can a compressor cool box also freeze?

Yes, most reach −10 to −20 °C and freeze food. It is not meant for true long-term deep freezing of large quantities, but as mobile cooling with a freezer option for travel and camping it is ideal.

How much power does a compressor cool box use?

On average around 0.3 to 0.9 kWh per day, depending on size, target temperature and outside heat. At 12 V it runs off the vehicle battery; an integrated battery monitor prevents deep discharge.
